Alimony is another issue that must be addressed in many cases. From the beginning of our representation, we are concerned with the client’s entitlement to receive or obligation to pay alimony. Alimony may be temporary (perhaps while litigation is pending); rehabilitative (to enable a party to become totally or more self-sufficient); bridge-the-gap; permanent; or lump sum. We advise our clients of the likelihood they will receive or have to pay alimony. This affects how we handle settlement of the case.
We are mindful of the cost of litigating the issue of alimony and advise our clients accordingly. Our goal is to resolve this matter as quickly and as efficiently as possible, obtaining a fair and equitable arrangement whether our client is negotiating the payment or receipt of alimony.
