Economic Mediation is a form of dispute resolution where a trained and impartial mediator helps the divorcing couple reach an agreement on the financial issues of their divorce. The mediator discusses possible compromises with both parties and works toward opening and maintaining clear channels of communication.
Economic Mediation was approved by the Supreme Court of New Jersey for statewide implementation in September, 2006. Parties who are unable to resolve their issues during the matrimonial early settlement panel are required to attend economic mediation. However, the parties can refer themselves to economic mediation at any point in their case. There is no charge for the first two hours, after which time the mediator may charge a fee.
